Firstly, before I jump into this review of the first book in the Jimmy Coates series, I wanted to apologise for the lack of posts over the week. I had yet another sick bug. Gross. I didn’t want you to think that I was taking my time over Jimmy, as I actually read it in two sittings…
I have to admit that I was a bit anxious about reading this book, as when people big something up a lot, you expect it to be amazing and it often turns out to be ‘ok’. However, this book was not merely a ‘meh’ but truly gripping, fast paced and left me guessing the whole way through. Five stars from me!
Unlike some books, Killer jumped straight into the action and didn’t stop; it is definitely a book where you persuade yourself just to read one more chapter! I love the characters and the fact that you don’t really know who to trust at any given point. I’m dying to know more about one of the characters in particular, so I’ll just have to read the next one.
Jimmy discovers one day that he is capable of kicking some serious butt without him even knowing how he’s doing it. As the story unravels, it becomes clear that he isn’t just a normal kid. The tag line for the books describes Jimmy as, ‘part boy, part weapon, totally deadly’. It’s tricky to say much more about this book without giving too much away and the plot twists are too delicious for me to ruin for you. If you like action, twists and turns in a storyline and serious mixed martial arts moves, read this book! If you like watching action/adventure films with detectives and spies in, or you enjoy reading Alex Rider/ Young James Bond/ Artemis Fowl/ The Maze Runner etc, then go for this! Read the blurb below for a little more.
